So I wake up to my mom yelling "Danielle!!!! Wake up! Get up! There is something in the back yard!"

It was not something I would call normal and it was really unnerving because it was also about 5:40 in the morning. So I get up, all crusty eyed and everything, trying to figure out what is going on and see what I thought to be a dead cat in the yard. Oh boy was I wrong. It was actually a huge snapping turtle covered in mud and grossness. There are a few pictures below but we had to get it out of the yard because Levi (the dog) had to use the yard. So, after waking me up, Mom goes and gets Mike so he can remove the offensive turtle from the yard. Mike gets out there (after taking forever and if the house was on fire we would all be dead) and sees the turtle, his reaction "oh well! that is a turtle!" He gets a snow shovel and proceeds to try and skoot the turtle on to it but instead flips it over and then it rolls down the steep slope it had climbed up in the first place. It was all very dramatic and I was very nervous because turtles can breath and thus die when trapped on their backs. So as it was falling down the slope it once again flipped and landed on its back. As my mom was freaking out and Mike pondering how to get to the turtle to flip it back over I decide to jump down the slope and flip it with the shovel, running back to the yard because lord only knows how fast snapping turtles can move on land, maybe they are like hippos and we all know those things are found in my back yard all the time.

Anyways, the turtle goes on its way and we haven't seen it since but the weird part is that when I looked snapping turtles up they warned not to move it with one's bare hands and to use a snow shovel but that was not all. It also said that the female turtle will mate during November to April and then lay eggs in June-July. Yeah that is right JUNE!!!! So mom and I are guessing that this fellow had crawled up to lay its eggs....grrr....ea.....t

But we are hoping that since we haven't seen it since maybe it got the idea and moved on. Oh and they are vicious as this one attacked the shovel a couple times and was very angry with mike when he was trying to remove it. Oh well, at least it is gone for now. Here are the pics and please don't mind the blurred ones because it was really early.

This last one is a funny cartoon of a snapping turtle. That is all....

Hello there :)
So as I was sitting here trying to study for an exam I heard my littlest friend Maxumis sneezing and realized that I should clean his cage tonight. When I opened the hatch to his hideout he was in that creepy "death" pose. Ya know the one you find your smallest friends in one morning before school? Well I knew he wasn't dead because I could see him breathing so I took him out and saw that both of his eyes were crusted shut. This is not a new occurrence as he is a very old hamster (since winter term sophomore year...2+ years old) and has had an upper respiratory tract infection for a while, nothing you can do when he is an old man hamster. Anyways I get his eyes open and he can see and smell his environment, my bed/floor. I get the cage stuff out and put him in his ball to roll around while clean out his cage. I do the usual cleaning of removing old litter and cleaning both pieces of the cage with bleach (no worries I have done this for years and he has made it this far). So get the cage filled with fresh litter, put back together, and make up his food bowl with the first layer of treats (dried fruit and animal friendly yogurt covered berries), the second layer a mixture of seeds, colorful shapes of some rodent food and those little alfalfa bits (he hates those and always leaves them in bowl when I go to clean his cage again), and the last/top layer of those huge pellets of all the really healthy stuff the vet recommended (yes I have taken him to the vet 2+ times, what can I say, I am a very dedicated hamster Mama). So I go down stairs to get his water bottle cleaned up and fill it with a little bit of Gatorade powder and cold water (the vet said he needs extra electrolytes as he old and has a constant virus, causing wet tail/hamster diarrhea). I come back upstairs to find him foraging through his food bowl for the dried fruit and berries. He is latterly spilling his food out of the bowl to get to the good stuff. When I finally think he has all he can fit in his mouth he keeps adding more and more, I didn't think he could fit up the tube to his hideout. Well he did and wouldn't empty his mouth until he thought I wasn't looking because clearly I go in at night and steal all his hamster food...;) Anyways, he is an old man and when he goes I am going to miss him SOOOOO much. That is all for tonight and I am going to get back to studying for the finals I still need to take.... won’t that damn term ever end?!

Hey Everyone,
So today around 2pm my grandfather was laid to rest in Columbus, WI. It has been a really hard week and luckily now I can begin to move past this and go on with my life. He was the best grandfather I could have ever imagined and now he is at peace. That is it for now and all your calls and e-mails were very appreciated. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers and feel free to call, write, or just drop by. My Rock Island address is below and if you are ever in the far west of Illinois just call or if you are in Westmont/Suburbs of Chicago just give a ring and you will always have a place to stay.

So I have had a really hard term lately and have not really been too fond of it. Between a kitten killed in my kitchen (ask later) and failing not only one exam (expected; organic) but two exams all in one week it has been rough, to say the least. But alas the god of academia has smiled down on me. I have this lab report to do and it was due on Friday but it didn't get done just then so I got an extension till Monday...well as you might see by the post date/time it is almost Tuesday and it has yet to be turned in. Things got away from me on the weekend and it didn't really get turned in today; hey! at least it got finished. So I have been stressing about this among countless other things and tonight I am sitting here at this lovely computer in Olin trying to finish making my chemical structures and mechanisms on this program called ChemSketch (only available for Windows by the way....boooo-you whore!!!) and it dawns on me. Me, wouldn't you rather finish this report in your own room with warm dry socks on? Why yes Me I certainly would love to do that. Oh but alas I cannot because there are these pics. that need to be in my report, would they open right on my Mac if I e-mailed them to myself? Oh look behind you!!! They're some beautiful Macs right there. TRY IT!!! So I took my own advice and opened the attached file I sent myself (always back up your work!!). AH HA!!!! It does open. The wonderful mechanisms and equations that took me two days to make in that obnoxious program in fact do open on the wonderful world that is Mac. HAHAHAHAH I WIN!!

So to make a long yet true to self update, I get to go home, make a bite to eat and then put on some warm socks and finish the last little bit of report I have to write. So on that note, I bid you ado.
Ps. Steph and I scraped the 1/4cm of ice from my car in only 40mins and I put on my own new windshield wipers...BITCHES!!! WEICHAU :)

Reuters. 11:28 a.m. EST, October 30, 2006. Chinese slow to embrace 'free hugs' campaign. <http://www.cnn.com/2006/world/asiapcf/10/30/china.hugs.reut/index.html>. Accessed 8 Nov. 2006.

BEIJING, China (Reuters) -- The Chinese appear not to have warmed to a "free hugs" campaign aimed at cheering up strangers by hugging them on the street, with some huggers even being hauled away by police for questioning, media said on Monday.

The campaign hit the streets of Beijing, Changsha and Xi'an over the weekend, with participants opening their arms to embrace passers-by and brandishing cards saying "free hugs," "care from strangers," "refuse to be apathetic," the Beijing News said.

In the capital, police moved in and took away four huggers briefly for questioning, baffled by their wacky, Western-style activities on a busy downtown shopping street.

In the ancient capital of Xi'an, home to the terra cotta warriors, no more than 20 people, mostly children, had volunteered for the free hugs in two hours.

"Passers-by showed interest and curiosity, stopped and asked, but most of them walked away after hearing the explanation," Xinhua news agency said, quoting a local newspaper.

"Embracing is a foreign tradition. Chinese are not accustomed to this," a man named Li, a Xi'an citizen, was quoted as saying.

The ancient city of Changsha, capital of Hunan province, fared better, a local affairs Web site reported.

"Though some people refused (to be hugged), I hugged 20 people in one minute," one girl was quoted as saying.

The Free Hugs campaign started in Australia and gained fame with a music video this year.

I am so excited right now. I just found out that I could register for two 6-credit classes and then have 1-credit independent study and 1-credit directed study for a total of 8-credits and still be a FULL-TIME student!!! I was really worried how I was going to pull off organic and micro-biology next term with another science or what ever 3-credit class. Now I get to read a book that I have wanted to read for a really long time and do work for it so I can better understand the thesis the author is proposing. Oh my word, I bet this is not making any sense but for me it means the world and it means that I won't have to go insane next term trying to get all the work done every single week and it also means I will only have two classes with tests in it. All I want to do is just around and sing and make merry!!!!! Oh and I am supper excited because the marathon was yesterday in Chicago and my best friend since 2nd grade ran it and kicked the shit out of it!!!! Oh I love this day right now.... ok well minus the whole class and studying thing but I finally feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Oh I am so excited.
Ok now I have to go register my new amazing schedule!!! Woot Woot!!

Oh my word do I love my friends!!!! They amaze me at every turn of life and especially when I least expect it. I always thought that I would have a hard time when the people I care about most find that someone, I can honestly say that I thought I would be jealous. But as it has happened I am beyond excited about it and have found hope in the fact that all I have to do is wait, be happy, and not look for "it" and I will get slapped in the face with it. I guess people find others when they need it or when they are open to it. So in conclusion (I am working on a lab report thus the phrase) I will take a deep breath and find time to let me be me and open my mind to "it". That is all. It is finished.

Well I have been working on organic chemistry for what feels like a bagillion hours but a'las I did end up going to sleep last night. I got up extra early this morning to go in and get some help from Dr. N and amazingly enough he was happy that I was asking questions. YAY for people who enjoy answering questions!!! I have decided that I enjoy chem. homework a lot more than I enjoy bio homework and I also enjoy studying it more too. I know what you all are thinking..."wow danielle has had far too much coffee and I think the caffeine has permanently affected her brain." But rest assured I am not crazy nor am I hopped up on anything (I know that if you cook it they will come) ;)

Well this is the earliest that I have ever posted and as I don't want to tire you out before you get to class I shall leave you with this.

If you put bread out for the birds but yell at the groundhog Norman to eat it and then the dog does where does that leave you?
